Job description, qualfifications and duies:
A postdoctoral researcher opening in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) with a competitive remuneration package is offered. The appointment duration is 2 years with a possible 1-year extension. The position is available immediately, with the latest starting date of December 2023. The qualified candidate is expected to:
Have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
Have research interests with a particular emphasis on structural health monitoring, and metamaterial simulation and design for vibration control, along with a strong publication record.
Have demonstrated capability and extensive experience in developing novel physical modeling, artificial intelligence/machine learning/computer vision, and optimization techniques.
Have hands-on experience in experimental data acquisition.
The successful candidate will perform the research projects under Dr. Kai Zhou’s supervision. Dr. Kai Zhou is currently a research faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Michigan Technological University (MTU). He will join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) as an Assistant Professor in the summer of 2023. Dr. Kai Zhou has a broad research interest, including structural dynamics and vibrations, structural health monitoring, machinery fault prognosis and health management, smart materials and sensors, advanced manufacturing processes, and uncertainty quantification and reliability & safety assessment. He has published over 50 refereed journal articles and conference proceedings in relevant technical areas (google scholar and researchgate).
