Mentor & Lab Introduction:
Dr. Sahebi has received her PhD and Master's in Intelligent Systems from the University of Pittsburgh, her Master's in Computer Engineering from the University of Tehran, and Bachelor's in Computer Science/Engineering from the Sharif University of Technology. Her research focuses on machine learning and data mining for human-centered applications such as educational, recommendation, and mental health systems. Dr. Sahebi works on developing personalized models and algorithms that can deal with application-specific challenges, such as temporality, uncertainty, and sparsity. Her research has been awarded three grants from the US National Science Foundation, including prestigious CAREER and CRII awards. The outcome of her research has been featured in more than thirty peer-reviewed publications in major venues such as The ACM Web conference, ACM RecSys, AAAI, EDM, and AIED.
PersAI lab currently includes two PhD students who work on cross-domain user modeling and sequential recommendations under partially observable environments. The lab has graduated two PhD students (on topics of high-capacity and interpretable temporal point process models and discriminative factorization models for student behavioral pattern detection) and hosted a post-doc scholar and many master’s and bachelor’s students.
The lab atmosphere is friendly and collaborative, and the students work together and mentor each other frequently. Dr. Sahebi encourages the students to develop their hobbies and interests, and to take time for and be mindful of their physical and emotional health.
