Professor Yun Liu (email: 1point3acres.com) is a prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC) Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellow and professor in the field of the Materials Science at the Australian National University (worldwide QS ranking:30 in 2022). She is leading the exciting 5-years research program to revolutionise the material science and facilitate future materials design and development for use in technically important applications. Supported by this program, 4-8 PhD scholarships are available for global talents and outstanding students to be an integral part of a team to work on an exciting program- Nanoscale-interactions making future functional materials more powerful. The project aims to develop new model that adapts the structural and chemical information at different length scales into traditional crystallography, allowing to build a precise chemistry-structure-property relation of functional materials, more generally all solid-state materials. It is expected that the selected candidate will collaboratively work together with people in crystallography, materials chemists and physicists, electron microscopists, computational scientists, including experts in machine learning and Al. Potential PhD candidates are expected to work with academic staff (core team members), employing the model to design and develop materials that overcome the limitation of traditional functional materials, and exploring their applications in energy, defence and space, quantum computing and communication, green environment, decarbonisation, and biological and medical applications.
The students with a dream to conduct game-changing research and passionate about deep science and innovative technology are welcome to apply for these positions. The student needs to have one of more background in the solid-state chemistry, materials chemistry, materials physics, applied mathematics, materials computation and applied physics, or equivalent qualifications and experience in a related area. The students with a demonstrated research experience in one of more materials application fields abovementioned are more welcome. We recruit the students and create the research environment by following the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy. Female students will welcome and who will attend the program to promote Women in STEM.
If you are interested in one of these positions, please email your CV and transcripts to Prof Yun Liu by email to 1point3acres.com.
