美国路易斯安那州立大学Dr. George Z. Voyiadjis和Dr. Yaneng Zhou招计算岩土力学全奖博士生

A fully funded PhD position is available at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Louisiana State University. The successful candidate will be co-supervised by Dr. George Z. Voyiadjis and Dr. Yaneng Zhou. The research projects will be focused on computational geomechanics, including modeling rock damage in tool-rock interactions and modeling subsidence. One objective is to understand the fundamental mechanisms of the damage process of rocks in tool-rock interactions, which have wide applications in civil/mining/petroleum engineering. The other objective is to understand the fundamental mechanisms of subsidence due to various factors such as fluid withdrawal. The expected start date is Fall 2022 or earlier, and it is desirable to fill the position in a couple of months.

Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in civil/hydraulic/mechanical engineering or a related discipline. A master’s degree with researchexperience is a plus.
  • Strong background and interest in continuum mechanics, soil/rock mechanics and numerical modeling.
  • Experience with finite element software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) and programming (FORTRAN, MATLAB, C++, etc.).

Application:
Interested candidates are invited to email Dr. Voyiadjis (1point3acres.com) and Dr. Zhou (1point3acres.com) with the subject "PhD Application in Computational Geomechanics 2022 – [Last Name, First Name] – [Affiliated Institution]". Attach a copy of CV, transcripts, a statement of research, and the contact information for 3 references. English test scores (required TOEFL and optional GRE) for foreign applicants are also encouraged to provide in CV or as email attachments in PDF format. Further application information is available at: lsu.edu

About the co-supervisors:
Dr. George Z. Voyiadjis is the Boyd Professor at the Louisiana State University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the highest professorial rank awarded by the Louisiana State University System. He also holds the Freeport-MacMoRan Endowed Chair in Engineering. He is a leading expert in damage mechanics and numerical simulation of material behavior. Dr. Voyiadjis is a Foreign Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academia Europaea, Physics & Engineering Sciences, the European Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and the Polish Academy of Sciences, Division IV (Technical Sciences). More information is available at: lsu.edu
Dr. Yaneng Zhou is an assistant professor - research at the Louisiana State University. His primary research interest is in computational geomechanics, rock mechanics, finite element modeling, tool-rock interactions, and subsidence. Dr. Zhou obtained his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 2013. He did postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota, Pennsylvania State University, and Louisiana State University. Dr. Zhou’s publication profile is available at: scholar.google.com
