A National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project has one research assistantship (RA) position for a qualified student who will pursue a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Science at the San Diego State University (SDSU) in Fall 2021 semester. This is an Engineering Joint Doctoral Program between SDSU and UCSD (University of California, San Diego). The goal of the project is to develop a new persistent file system that is completely decoupled from the conventional DRAM-based volatile main memory. Basic Requirements:
1. A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related areas
2. A solid background in operating systems (Linux/Unix)
3. Programming skills in C/C++
4. TOEFL score should be at least 80
5. GRE (general) requirement is suspended for the Fall 2021 admission cycle. However, it is still highly recommended that applicants submit GRE scores if they have previously taken the exam
6. Undergraduate GPA (Grade Point Average) should be at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Preferred Requirements:
1. A Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related areas
2. Background in computer systems; and/or a few years working experience in C language
3. Interest in experimental computer system research
Detailed Information:
- You need to take courses at UCSD for one year. Both UCSD and SDSU are located in San Diego.
- Your diploma will be stamped by both SDSU and UCSD.
- Your tuition will be paid by SDSU&UCSD. In addition, you will receive a stipend ($23,000 per calendar year) if you are selected. The application deadline for Fall 2021 is 15 December 2020. This program only accepts Ph.D. students in Fall semesters.
Preference will be given to students with a Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related fields. So far all Ph.D. students graduated from Dr. Xie’s CASL (Computer Architecture and System Lab) joined leading storage companies (e.g., SanDisk, NetApp, Western Digital, etc.) in Silicon Valley right after their graduation. Interested candidates please send a statement of research interests (no more than 2 pages), CV, and photocopies of GRE (general), TOEFL, transcripts, and diplomas to Dr. Tao Xie at 1point3acres.com.
