One fully funded Ph.D. position is available in the SysteMs & InteLligEnce (SMILE) laboratory directed by Dr. Junfei Xie at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, San Diego State University (smile.sdsu.edu). The successful candidates will join the joint doctoral program offered by Electrical and Computer Engineering departments at University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU). The joint doctoral student will be supervised by Dr. Xie and co-advised by another faculty at UCSD. Multiple partially funded M.S. positions are also available in the SMILE lab. The successful candidates will join the Master program offered by the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at SDSU. The application deadline is March 1, 2021.

The research areas of these positions are generally related to artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, optimization, distributed computing and system control, with applications to unmanned aerial vehicles, ground robots, and air traffic management.

Applicants must have received a Bachelor’s degree in science and engineering fields. Candidates with strong theoretical background, rich hands-on experience and/or programming skills are highly considered. Research experience in aforementioned areas is a great plus.
