Dear XXX,
On behalf of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Duke University, I congratulate you on your admission to our graduate program. You should have already received a letter from the Dean of the Graduate School, which constitutes Duke’s formal offer of admission.
The Duke ECE Department is very pleased to offer you a $1,000.00 tuition scholarship for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. This amount will be posted directly to your Bursar’s account each semester to cover the cost of tuition. The initial term of your scholarship is for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, and the award is renewable for one additional semester, through Fall 2019, contingent upon satisfactory academic progress toward your degree.
The ECE Department will also be setting aside half of its scholarship funds for several merit‐based scholarships to be awarded at the end of the Fall 2018 semester. These will range from $6,000 to $12,000 per semester for two semesters and will be awarded to a number of students based on first‐semester performance (including factors such as GPA, involvement in department activities, TA needs, academic conduct). If you are selected for one of these awards, it would be added on top of the tuition scholarship that you have already received. We hope that the opportunity to earn such a scholarship will further motivate you to distinguish yourself academically.
If you would like to accept the terms of this scholarship, simply accept admission officially through the online admissions system. We know you have a difficult decision ahead of you in choosing a graduate program, but we hope that you will join us in the Fall.
