The Chair Professor Irene M.C. Lo's research group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST), invites to apply for a Post-doctoral Fellow position. The successful candidate will work on the development and optimization of advanced water treatment technologies for the removal and destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Research will involve innovative approaches such as electrochemical oxidation and reduction, advanced adsorption processes, and photoelectrochemical degradation, aiming to achieve efficient defluorination and mineralization of PFAS and provide sustainable solutions for PFAS contamination.
Ideal candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields, with a strong background in water treatment, environmental chemistry, or advanced oxidation processes. Experience in materials synthesis and characterization (e.g. SEM, TEM, EDS, XPS, XRD, Raman, etc.), electrochemistry, reactor design, water quality analysis (e.g. LC-MS, TOC, HPLC, IC), and chemical analysis (e.g., NMR, UV-Vis, MS) is highly desirable. Prior research experience in PFAS (fundamental or applied) will be considered a plus. The position offers a competitive salary (around HK $26,000), plus medical insurance coverage. The initial appointment is for 12 months.
