Postdoctoral researcher hiring!
Dr. Haonan Ling and Dr. Tong Wu are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join a growing collaborative research effort at the University of Central Florida, focused on advancing learning-based control with safety and geometric structure for complex dynamical systems.
Appointments are for 24 months, structured as an initial 12-month contract followed by a 12-month renewal based on satisfactory performance, with funding secured for the full duration. The expected start date is August 1, 2026.
Research directions include:
  1. Reinforcement Learning for Control Systems and Robotics
  2. Transfer Learning in Dynamical Systems
  3. Multi-Agent/Multimodal Control and Coordination
  4. Safe Reinforcement Learning
  5. Geometric Learning for Control

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, with a strong background in machine learning, particularly reinforcement learning. We seek individuals who demonstrate intellectual independence, rigorous thinking, and clear scientific communication, and who are motivated to contribute to both foundational research and practical impact.

We offer a strong computational infrastructure to support large-scale training and evaluation of modern reinforcement learning and control algorithms, including multiple NVIDIA A6000 GPU workstations and DGX systems. Postdoctoral researchers typically have dedicated access to GPU workstations. The group also has access to robotics hardware platforms for real-world validation.
