Environmental engineering job opening: Integration of photoelectrochemical with pressure swing adsorption for wastewater treatment and hydrogen production

Job Type: Post-doctoral Fellow
Job Institution: The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Job Description:
The research group of Chair Professor Irene M.C. Lo at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow position to work on cutting-edge research funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), Hong Kong. The successful candidate will contribute to a pioneering project entitled "A Holistic Study of Net Zero Photoelectrochemical (PEC) Technology through the Integration with Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) for Saline Wastewater Treatment Coupled with Hydrogen Production and Storage." This research aims to develop an integrated PEC-PSA technology for saline sewage treatment, enabling simultaneous removal of organic pollutants, ammonia, and bacteria while producing and storing green hydrogen.
Ideal candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields, with a strong background in electrochemical, photoelectrochemical, or environmental catalysis. Experience in materials synthesis and characterization (SEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, Raman), reactor design and scale-up, and water quality analysis (HPLC, IC, LC-MS) is highly desirable. The position offers a competitive salary (HK$35,000), plus a monthly HK$10,000 living allowance for doctoral holders under the Research Talent Hub (RTH) scheme, with MPF contribution, annual leave, and medical benefits. The initial appointment is for 12 months. Interested candidates should send a single PDF containing their CV (including publication list and 2–3 referees), 2–3 representative publications, and a cover letter to Prof. Irene M.C. Lo at 1point3acres.com. Review begins immediately until the position is filled.
