The Department of Computer Science at Wayne State University is seeking motivated PhD students to join the research group of Dr. Zheng Dong (Associate Professor), starting in Fall 2026.
Dr. Dong received his PhD from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2019. His research focuses on real-time embedded AI systems, cyber-physical systems, autonomous driving, edge computing, and IoT, with an emphasis on building predictable, reliable, and high-performance systems for safety-critical applications.
Wayne State University is a Carnegie R1 public research university located in Detroit, Michigan. According to CSRankings, WSU is ranked #7 nationwide in Embedded & Real-Time Systems. The campus is located in Midtown Detroit, close to major technology and automotive companies (e.g., Ford, GM), offering strong opportunities for internships and industry collaboration.
Positions are fully funded (tuition + stipend).
