Position Summary
I invite applications for a PhD position to join DeGroote School of Business at McMaster
University in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will join the Data Driven Optimization and
Operations Research (DDOOR) group, whose research areas and ongoing projects can be explored

Research Focus
The successful candidate will conduct research in data-driven optimization and dynamic decision-
making, with applications in supply chain management and smart cities. Our research group
integrates methods from machine learning, optimization, stochastic processes (e.g., Markov
decision processes), and approximate dynamic programming to develop effective dynamic control
policies for large-scale stochastic systems.
Funding
This position offers a competitive funding package of $37,000–$42,000 CAD per year, based on
satisfactory progress and performance.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or
a closely related field.
Strong background in probability theory, operations research, and (stochastic)
optimization.
Demonstrated research excellence through prior publications, or thesis work.
GRE or GMAT score.
Minimum TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS score of 7.0.
