2026 Ph.D. Position in Industrial Engineering
Position Description
The Electrified, Autonomous, and Shared Transportation (EAST) lab in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites highly motivated candidates to apply for one fully funded Ph.D. position starting 2026 Fall, working under Dr. Hongyu Zheng. Applicants with background in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other relevant fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
About the PI
Dr. Zheng is an Assistant Professor in the ISE department with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UTK. His research centers on the crosscutting field of Industrial Engineering and Mobility. Methodology-wise, he specializes in developing novel tools based on applied economics, game theory, machine learning (ML), optimization, and network modeling.
