open positions: 2 phd student positions, 2026 spring/Fall

we are seeking 2 phd students at arizona state university (asu) in tempe, az. these positions focuse on plasma-material interplay in extreme conditions for semiconductor applications but are not limited to this field. candidates with a strong research background in plasma physics, instrumentation, processes, or other relevant fields are highly encouraged to apply. The positions are set to begin in spring 2026, or fall 2026.

this project is supported by a leading semiconductor company, applied materials. the successful candidate will have unique research opportunities to work with collaborators from universities, national laboratories, as well as applied materials. the selected candidate will be co-advised by profs. eric nian (labs.engineering.asu.edu and wonmo kang (wonmokang3.wixsite.com
