Dr. Guangzhao Chen is looking for two motivated Ph.D. students starting in the Spring/Fall of 2026 to join the SWIRL (Smart Wind Engineering for Intelligent Resilience Lab) at Texas Tech University (TTU). Applicants enthusiastic about advancing interdisciplinary research in AI/ML-enhanced Wind Engineering and Multi-Hazard Resilience are encouraged to apply!
Research Focus
Wind hazard modeling: Characterization of extreme wind events
AI/ML for resilience: Data-driven structural performance assessment and hazard prediction.
Multi-hazard risk analysis: Combined impacts of wind, storm surge, and other hazards.
Numerical modeling and simulations: CFD, FEM, and digital twins.
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, or related fields
Preferred: Some experience in programming (Python, MATLAB), signal processing, AI/ML
