22161
Professor chentianyi1991.github.io is joining Cornell Tech and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University in the Summer of 2025. His lab is looking for new students to start in Fall 2025 or Fall 2026. The research lab led by Tianyi Chen is looking for self-motivated Ph.D. students and Postdocs with interests in the general areas of optimization, machine learning, signal processing, and communication. The group’s recent foci lie in
A1) Foundations and applications of generative AI: bilevel and multi-objective optimization theory; generative AI model (e.g., LLMs and diffusion models) fine-tuning;
A2) Algorithmic issues for new computing systems: analog in-memory computing systems; and AI-centric next-generation (NextG) wireless systems.
Qualifications: For postdocs, strong mathematical backgrounds (e.g., statistics, signal processing, and optimization) and programming skills are preferred, but for PhD applicants, research experiences on these areas are not required. We are particular looking for people with mathematical backgrounds who are keen to work on engineering systems applications.
If you are interested, please contact Prof. Chen at 1point3acres.com with your CV.
About Professor Chen: Prof. Chen is the inaugural recipient of IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Best PhD Dissertation Award in 2020, a recipient of NSF CAREER Award in 2021, and several industrial research awards including Amazon Research Award and Cisco Research Award. He is also the recipient of several best (student) paper awards including the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) in 2021, and the IEEE SPS Young Author Best Paper Award in 2024. The research lab led by Prof. Chen has tight collaborations with industry such as IBM research, Cisco, Samsung Research America, and Alibaba Damo Academy. The recent graduates from Prof. Chen’s lab have found tenure-track positions in top US universities (e.g., University of Rochester) and research scientists in research labs worldwide (e.g., Art AI group, IBM research).
About Cornell and Cornell Tech: As a member of the prestigious Ivy League, Cornell University offers a tradition of academic excellence and is consistently ranked among the top universities in the world. Cornell is consistently ranked in the top 20 worldwide, and Cornell’s Electrical and Computer Engineering programs are ranked the top 10 based on U.S. News & World Report. Cornell Tech is a graduate campus of Cornell University located on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan, New York City. The campus features an immersive “Studio curriculum” where students can build solutions for industry partners and develop skills in product development and entrepreneurship.
