Ph.D. positions with full assistantship supports (tuition & stipend) are currently available at Dr. Yu Bi’s research group at the University of Rhode Island starting from Summer/Fall 2025. URI is a R1 flagship research university in Rhode Island, with the extraordinary location close to major cities (Boston in 1.5 hours and NYC in 2.5 hours). The ECBE department has a very strong academic stand among national universities. Department graduates often receive job offers from big tech companies, such as Google, Apple, Nvidia and so on.
The major research area falls into:
(1) Hardware/computer security and trust;
(2) Energy-efficient and robust hardware acceleration design for ML and neural networks;
(3) Security for FPGA, embedded devices and cyber-physical systems;
(4) Machine learning modeling, acceleration and security;
(5) Other general computing-related research are also welcome to apply.
Backgrounds in one or more of the following aspects are especially encouraged to apply:
(1) Proficient in programming languages (Python, C/C++, Verilog etc.);
(2) Experienced in hardware design and FPGA implementations (Xilinx Vivado etc.);
(3) Experienced in machine/deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow etc.);
(4) Self-motivated and interested in doing research.
