Title: Master/Ph.D. /Visiting student openings in Dr. Yan Zhang’s lab
Dr. Yan Zhang is a Research Assistant Professor at the Biological Sciences Department of Michigan Technological University. Her research focuses on determining the role of innate immunity in polycystic cystic kidney disease and the potential therapeutic approach to treat the disease.
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is the most common, potentially lethal genetic disorder characterized by the progressive enlargement of numerous fluid-filled cysts and the development of interstitial inflammation and fibrosis leading to the decline of renal function. The prevalence of PKD is 1:400 to 1:1000 affecting 12.5 million people worldwide. Approximately 50% of patients progress to end-stage renal disease by middle age and require dialysis or renal transplantation. Currently, treatment options for ADPKD patients are limited; thus, the development of new effective therapies is urgent and important for PKD management. Dr. Zhang’s research lab investigates the role of innate immunity in the pathological microenvironment of PKD and further explores the potential therapeutic effects of manipulating innate immunity.
Dr. Zhang is a well-trained and experienced investigator with enthusiasm for training students and performing research. Her lab gets access to various tools and resources used to study PKD including clinical resources and biomaterials, multiple animal models, PKD cells, and mouse embryonic kidneys.
Dr. Zhang has a strong connection with PKD Foundation and PKD Research Resource Consortium. She also closely collaborates with top research groups/institutes, University of Kansas Medical Center, Harvard University, University of Southern California.
We are looking for the ideal candidates who have extensive experience on
Basic understanding of molecular and cellular biology.
Molecular biology: DNA and RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunblot, cloning, immunostaining
Cellular biology: culture of cell lines, cell proliferation assay
Animal studies: mouse, genotypeing drug injection, tissue collection, maintain a mice colony
Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written)
If interested, please send me your CV, transcript(s), GRE, TOEFL (international applicants only), and sample publications if applicable to the email address: [email protected].
