Fully funded PhD position at Stevens on AI for neuroscience and neurotechnology

One opening of PhD student positino is available at Stevens Institute of Technology working with Dr. Feng Liu, and majoring in System Engineering/Industrial Engineering. The research will be focused on AI for neuroscience and neurotechnology. The PhD student will be supported with competitive Provost scholarship. The starting time can be Fall 2025. The research directions are focused on developing AI models for brain networks analysis to uncover the biomarkers for brain disorders such as epilepsy, mental disorders leveraging EEG, fMRI, DTI and advanced ML models including LLMs. We have established good computational resources and rich data resources, and a few exciting on-going projects collaborating with Harvard Medical School, U Chicago, Rutgers, Case Western Reserve University, and Cincinnatti Children's Hospital.

Desirable PhD applicants shoul have a strong skillset in programming, writing and mathematics with a background from Automatic Control, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or other related fields. A Master degree in related fields is required; GRE and TOEFL maybe be waived for strong candidate.

About Dr. Feng Liu:

Dr. Feng Liu is currently an assistant professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. He received his PhD degree in the Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2018. He joined Harvard University (Medical School) as a Postdoctoral research fellow from 2018 to 2020. He also holds a research affiliate appointment at Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT and Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at MGH. Dr. Liu is the winner of the Best Paper Award at 11th International Conference of Brain Informatics in 2018, and the Best Paper Award of INFORMS Data Mining Society in 2019, Finalist of Best Paper Award in INFORMS DMDA workshop in 2023, Best Poster Award at AI for Epilepsy Conference in 2024. Dr. Liu has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Dr. Liu’s research group has received multiple grants from NIH, DoD and New Jersey Health foundation as PI or MPI.
