The Earth System Science and Data Solutions Lab (ESSDS) at Schmid College of Science and Technology, Chapman University, invites applications for a funded PhD position in Remote Sensing, Geoscience, and Artificial Intelligence.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on integrating remote sensing, machine learning, and geospatial analytics to address global challenges, including climate change, water resource management, and disaster resilience. Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in remote sensing and AI applications.
- Develop data-driven methods for environmental monitoring and sustainability.
- Contribute to ongoing projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Mentor undergraduate students and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in remote sensing, GIS, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, Google Earth Engine).
- Interest in machine learning, satellite data, and environmental science.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Funding and Benefits
The position includes:
- Annual Salary/Stipend: $32,000 – $35,000.
- Full tuition coverage for the duration of the program.
