Fully Funded PhD Positions in 3D Machine Learning/Deep Learning for Additive Manufacturing at UW-Madison
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for two fully funded PhD positions starting in Fall 2025. The positions focus on 3D Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Additive Manufacturing.
Successful candidates will work with Dr. Michael Biehler, an incoming tenure-track Assistant Professor in the ISyE department. Dr. Biehler’s research aims to advance 3D and 4D printing capabilities by integrating 3D machine learning, deep learning, control theory, engineering principles, and material science.

- Educational Background: A master’s degree in engineering (e.g., Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science, etc.) is preferred.
- Strong English communication and writing skills.
- Strong motivation and interest in the research direction.
- Openness to hands-on experiments alongside cutting-edge machine learning research.
- Prior research experience is a plus.
- Experience with machine learning programming is a plus.
