Dr. Chen Chen from the Department of Computer Science, University of Virginia is looking for 1~2 self-motivated PhD students starting at Fall 2025 who is interested in machine learning on complex networks, data science and their applications on epidemiology, healthcare and biology.
About me:
I am currently a first-year tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences at University of Virginia (UVA). Before that, I was a Research Assistant Professor at Biocomplexity Institute, and a software engineer at Google. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science at Arizona State University under the supervision of Professor Hanghang Tong in 2019. My primary research focuses on data science, machine learning, and the broader realm of AI. My research has appeared in top-tier conferences (including KDD, NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, AAMAS, WSDM, SIGIR, ICDM, CIKM, and SDM), and prestigious journals (including PNAS, ACM CSUR, IEEE TKDE, ACM TKDD, SIAM SAM and Epidemics). I have received multiple prestigious awards based on my research, including Two Best Paper Nominations for KDD and SDM. Additionally, I was selected as a Rising Star in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS Rising Star). (For more information, please check my personal website chenannie45.github.io)
