Dr. Mingrui Liu is looking for self-motivated Ph.D. students with strong mathematical abilities and (or) programming skills to solve challenging machine learning problems elegantly with mathematical analysis and empirical studies. The required technical skills include mathematical optimization, statistical learning theory, algorithms, and deep learning. If you are interested, please send your CV and transcript to Dr. Liu’s email: 1point3acres.com
Brief Introduction: Dr. Mingrui Liu has been an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science, George Mason University, since Fall 2021. Before that, he was a postdoc at Rafik B. Hariri Institute at Boston University from 2020-2021. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Iowa in August 2020. Before that, he studied at the Institute of Natural Sciences and the School of Mathematical Sciences at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He worked at industrial research labs like IBM Research AI and Alibaba DAMO Academy.
Research: Dr. Liu’s research interests include mathematical optimization, statistical learning theory, deep learning, and its applications. He has published over 20 papers on top machine learning venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and JMLR. He has been an area chair for NeurIPS, IJCAI, and AISTATS. All of his students publish top-tier machine learning conferences within the first year after joining in his research group.
