The Computational Physics and Mechanics Lab at Vanderbilt University is looking to recruit a fully-funded PhD student in the area of computational fracture mechanics. The student will be working on the phase field fracture model, adaptive finite element methods, and machine learning surrogates. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Earth and Environmental Sciences or a relevant field. The student must have a deep interest in mathematics, mechanics, computing, and material science or geosciences. Essential are strong quantitative and analytical skills, experience in programming (with Python, C++ or Fortran), and a good command of English in writing and speaking.
