Multiple Ph.D. positions focusing on AI security with full financial support are now available for Spring/Fall 2022 in Dr. Changqing Luo’s group at the Department of Computer Science, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Richmond, VA USA. VCU is located at Richmond, the state capital of Commonwealth of Virginia, US. It is a state university with almost 200 years, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified the school as a Research University with highest research activity (R1).
Applicants should have a Bachelor or Master (preferred) degree (or expect to receive the degree before enrollment at VCU) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Applied Mathematics, or related disciplines. Applicants with strong background on AI, cybersecurity, and cryptography are particularly welcome to apply.

Dr. Changqing Luo (people.vcu.edu ) is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science at VCU. His current research interest is cybersecurity in AI, including AI model protection, generative AI content protection, attacks and defenses in AI, and privacy-preserving AI model training and inference (to co-advise with Dr. Hongsheng Zhou). His publications have appeared in prestigious conferences and journals, such as IEEE Infocom, JSAC, TPDS, TNSE, TBD, etc. He is the recipient of Best Paper Award, Best Journal Paper Award, and Best Application Paper Award, etc. He is active in the academic community, for example, serving as TPC co-chairs of many important international conferences (e.g., Globecom’22) and Associate Editors of several leading Journals (e.g., IEEE Internet of Things (IoT) Journal).
