Zhiling Lan received her PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University in 2002. She is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Chicago and holds a joint appointment with Argonne National Laboratory. Her research interests lie in the field of high-performance computing (HPC), with particular emphasis on resource management and scheduling, performance modeling and simulation, fault tolerance, and energy efficiency. She has co-authored approximately 120 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. She co-leads the SPEAR Lab at UIC (spear.lab.uic.edu ).
Fully funded Ph.D. positions are available in the SPEAR Lab of Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois Chicago. The team conducts research spanning various areas of parallel and distributed systems including cluster management, interconnection networking, performance modeling and simulation, power and energy efficiency, and fault tolerance. Our mission is to unify systems and AI, where we are committed to creating software systems to expedite AI applications (Sys4AI) and exploring advanced AI technologies to tackle critical research challenges in computer systems (AI4Sys). SPEAR Lab members have sufficient access to various CPUs, GPUs, and AI accelerators for research projects.
