Join the vibrant and innovative Guizhen Zhao Lab in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston! We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated postdoctoral researchers to join our team.
About the Lab
Dr. Guizhen Zhao is an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston. Dr. Zhao received her Ph.D. in 2018 from Perking University Health Science Center and complected her postdoctoral training from 2018 to 2023 in Dr. Eugene Chen’s lab at the University of Michigan, where she focused on the intricate between metabolism and epigenetics in cardiovascular diseases. Her research has been published in journals such as Circulation Research, JCI, Cardiovascular Research, ATVB, etc.
Dr. Zhao’s lab dedicates to investigate the molecular and metaboloepigenetic mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, and drive drug discovery innovations. Our laboratory employs a combination of animal models, cultured cells, pathological and immunological analyses, and cutting-edge technologies, including bulk RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, chromatin accessibility profiling by ChIP-seq, CUT&RUN-seq and ATAC-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and metabolomics. Our laboratory is strongly supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH R01), American Heart Association (AHA-Career Development Award) and the institution.
About the Institute
The University of Houston is a Carnegie-Designated Tier 1 public research university and a member institution of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center with a significant focus on translational research. Our department have very strong ties to other basic science departments, institutes and centers at Houston, as well as clinical departments at the Texas Medical Center area.
The University's prime location in America's fourth-largest city supports extensive industry partnerships and experiential learning opportunities. Renowned for its energy industry and NASA's Space Center, Houston is home to a vibrant cultural scene with world-class museums, theaters, and restaurants. Houston thrives as a hub for innovation, education, and arts, fostering a unique blend of community charm and modern progress.
Job Duties
Works with the PI for hypothesis development and experimental design. Perform bench work using various molecular and cellular biology techniques, conducting animal experiments, and taking the primary responsibility for one of the major research projects in the laboratory. Collaborates with the department’s other group members and lab members for other collaborative research projects. Participates in data processing, discussion, analysis and reporting, manuscript preparation, and conference presentations. Helps the PI and team in managing the lab. Mentors junior lab members. Applies Postdoc Fellowship or other qualified awards and fundings.
Minimum Qualifications
MD or Ph.D. in basic science, health science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior training in molecular and cellular biology, epigenetics, metabolomics, animal and cardiovascular disease models. Prior first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Highly motivated to pursue an independent career in translation biomedical research. Excellent communication, time management and teamwork skills.
Application process
To express your interest, email you updated CV, your cover letter outlining your research interests, and at least three reference letters to Dr. Guizhen Zhao at [email protected]. Use “Postdoctoral Application+Name” as your subject title.
