Professor Jiangtao Cheng is seeking for self-motivated PhD students to fill multiple funded graduate research assistant (GRA) positions in 2024 Spring and 2024 Fall. Dr. Cheng is currently an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Virginia Tech (VT) (me.vt.edu If you are interested, please read the following information and submit an application to the PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech.
Research Topics:
The students will be working on projects which may cover the following areas
Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics
Microfluidics and Nanofluidics and Optofluidics
Interfacial Phenomena and Surface Wetting
Optofluidic Biosensing and Near Surface Sensing
Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and Lab on a Chip
Quantifications:
Strong interest in fluid mechanics and heat transfer or micro/nanofluidics
B.S/B.E degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, chemical engineering or physics. A master’s degree with corresponding research experience is preferred
Strong theoretical background in fluid mechanics and hands-on experimental skills. Students with MEMS and clean-room experience are preferable but not required.
Publications are preferable but not required.
