The Department of Mathematics at the University of Louisville welcomes applications to the Ph.D. program for the Spring 2024 semester. The carnegieclassifications.iu.edu, recently finalized, once more has designated University of Louisville a “Research 1” doctoral university with very high research activity. UofL is one of only 146 universities – roughly 4% of those considered – to receive this designation. The University of Louisville Department of Mathematics is a research-oriented department that prides itself on delivering first-rate graduate instruction. With over twenty-five full-time faculty members, graduate students have the opportunity to take courses that cover a wide spectrum of mathematics and its applications. Graduate students in our programs have the opportunity to work with faculty who are active scholars in a wide variety of mathematics and its applications. The department has particular strengths in Analysis, Algebra, Differential Equations, Discrete Math, Dynamical Systems, Financial Mathematics, Functional Equations, Logic, Set Theory, Probability, Statistics, and Topology.
