We are hiring! Open positions for PhD and PostDoc available in Fan's group at Kansas State University. Join us if you are interested in microfluidics, in vitro diagnostics, organ-on-a-chip, and hydrogel printing. See details below
About PI
Dr. Shih-Kang Fan focuses on developing electromicrofluidic (EMF) platform that bridges gaps and demonstrates novel microfluidics on a single chip with electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) and dielectrophoresis (DEP) to manipulate objects:
; of broad electric properties (water, oil and crosslinkable prepolymer droplets)
; on wide scales (mm droplets, μm particles/cells/emulsions, nm monomers/polymers)
; in adjustable geometries (deformable droplets and continuous liquid columns)
Fan's current research involves:
; in vitro diagnostics: rapid, sensitive molecular assays and immunoassays, particularly digital assays, for point-of-care testing (POCT)
; organ-on-a-chip: human tissues with reorganized cells in biomaterials and recapitulate physiological microenvironment with dynamic and interactive media manipulation for disease and radiation injury studies
; 3D hydrogel printing: manufacture origami soft robots with reorganized particles in hydrogels for advanced untethered microswimmers
Open Positions
If you are interested in joining the Fan's lab as a doctoral student or a postdoctoral fellow, please use "Prospective Lab Member" as the email subject line and contact Dr. Fan at 1point3acres.com or Dr. Ding at 1point3acres.com with materials including (1) Your CV and (2) A brief statement of interest (one page) that covers:
; Your motivations and objectives for joining our lab
; The specific research direction(s) or project(s) you are interested in
; Any relevant experience or coursework related to our research
Applicants whose profiles closely align with our lab's mission will be contacted for an interview as soon as possible. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in biology and biomedicine, materials science and chemical engineering, polymer and synthetic chemistry, mechanical and electrical engineering.
