I'm looking for one M.S. student starting in Spring 2024. This is a funded position (with salary, in-state tuition, and fees) and the student is expected to continue pursuing a Ph.D. degree. The ideal candidates should have an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) background with solid computer programming skills (i.e., Python, C++, Java), AI/ML, computational analysis, sensing data processing and analysis, and project experience.
The following are preferred:
Academic training and experience with advanced spatial sensing technologies (e.g., GPS, Wi-Fi, LiDAR, camera, radar, etc.), AI/ML/DL, and control models (e.g., KF).
Experience with human mobility modeling, shared and automated mobility, travel demand models, data processing and analytics; Familiar with vehicle/traffic simulation, such as SUMO, CARLA, etc.
College degree in Engineerings, such as Computer Science and Engineering, Operations Research/Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Engineering

Dr. Lei Zhu is an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). Dr. Zhu’s research areas cover Human mobility and shared mobility system modeling and simulation, Wi-Fi and GPS data processing, and spatial sensing technologies. Self-motivated students with similar research interests are welcome to join my research lab in this emerging and exciting field to enhance Smart City and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
