Faculty Introduction
Dr. Yi Ding is an Assistant Professor of the engineering.purdue.edu at Purdue University in Aug. 2023, where she leads the Learning Systems Group. Before Purdue, she was a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT CSAIL. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of Chicago in Dec. 2020. Between Oct. 2021 to Dec. 2022, she was a Visiting Researcher at Meta Infrasucture Data Center to improve maintenance efficiency of millions of servers in real-world hyperscale datacenters. Her expertise focuses on machine learning for systems, especially co-designing machine learning and systems approaches that enhance computer system performance and energy efficiency. Her work has appeared in top-tier machine learning venues including NeurIPS, AISTATS, and AAAI, along with computer systems, architecture, and software engineering venues including ISCA, ASPLOS, ESEC/FSE, and MLSys. Her webpage: y-ding.github.io
Research Interests
Her research lies at the intersection of computer systems, computer architecture, software engineering, and machine learning. Her work builds interdisciplinary links to machine learning and causal inference to better design and manage computer systems.
Purdue University
Purdue University at West Lafayette, Indiana, USA (or Purdue) is a top 10 public university in the US. According to the U.S. News & World Report, Purdue Engineering ranks #4 in the U.S, and the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in Purdue ranks #10 in the US. The Computer Engineering directory of Purdue ECE has strengths in software systems, computer architecture, and AI/machine learning.
Recruitment
Dr. Ding is looking for 2-3 PhD students with strong system implementation skills to join her research group starting from Fall 2024. The PhD students will conduct high-impact research at the intersection of computer systems, cloud computing, and machine learning. They will be working on some of the hardest scientific challenges around the resource efficiency and environment impact of real-world cloud computing systems. As a PhD student, you will work closely with the advisor proposing, conducting, and transferring innovative research. You will collect large amounts of real-world data to address open problems, build and test your computing systems, and publish at top systems/AI venues.
If you are interested in doing research in these areas, please apply for engineering.purdue.edu and mention Dr. Yi Ding's name in your application.
