PhD positions in Environmental Design & Planning (Building Construction) are available at the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at College of Engineering, Virginia Tech. Full financial support (tuition waiver and competitive stipend) will be provided. The students will work on research topics in the areas of smart and connected communities, human-built environment interactions, disaster resilience, sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems, and built environment equity.
Application Instructions
Applicants with M.S. or B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering are encouraged to apply. Other majors will be considered if the applicant has relevant expertise. The preferred starting time is Spring 2024.

About the Advisor
The students will be supervised by Dr. Lu Zhang. Dr. Lu Zhang is an Associate Professor at the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. Her research interests include smart buildings and cities, resilient infrastructure systems, cyber human systems, human-centered analysis, data analytics, and building information modeling. Her research in these areas is supported by grants from different agencies, including National Science Foundation, Florida Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Transportation, Engineering Information Foundation, and Natural Hazards Center.
